Recorded at Crystal Clear Studios in Dallas, TX, Keeping Ourselves Together, was 1 of 4 songs recorded during what was our first experience as a band in a proper studio. Written solely by Paco, the song was a live staple in the early days, and along side Invisible People, acted as a good mid tempo song amongst are heavy rock laden set.
Engineered by Kent Stump, one of the highlights of the track was the unplanned organ improv track by Paco, which was done on the studio's organ with very little rehearsal at all. The other thing that comes to mind is the long winded guitar feedback at the tail end of the song as Chad finished his solo. It was blistering loud in the tracking room while he let it ring out...little did he know the "stop" button had been hit minutes earlier yet he was prompted to keep it feeding back for several minutes as if we were capturing something magic. It was edited out heavily during the mixing phase a day or so later.
i wish i had wings so i could get higher and fly past this paranoia but i can't get my feet on the ground to get my head out of the cloud
i feel like a child in a sky scraper building where everyone sports a coat and a tie
i don't belong here i don't belong
in a world full of people who are telling themselves
that everything turns out alright
they're lying awake at night depending on hope
we love to make promises we know we can't keep
but its still nice to see ourselves trying
to keep us from falling to keep us alive
and you said you'd walk a million miles for me
smile a million smiles for me to keep me from dying
and i said that i would be there when you're falling
but you're scraping your knees on the pavement
and its leaving you bruised
is this love good enough for you
cause i'm barely breathing
and i can't feel alone
is this love good enough for you
cause i'm barely breathing
and i can't feel alone
so long i've been missing you so long
but happiness
is one phone call away
